Jennifer Lopez was allegedly trying to remove herself from controversy, but might be facing a lawsuit as a result. The singer had a concert scheduled at the Cratos Premium hotel and casino complex in northern Cyprus on July 24, but Greeks who live on the island said the concert would further divide a country, which has been split since the 1970s. The area where Lopez was to perform is a Turkish-occupied section of the island that is only recognized by Turkey. A rep for Lopez said she would not be performing due to the “sensitivity to the political realities of the region.” Unfortunately, the venue owners aren’t exactly buying the “sensitivity” sentiment. The hotel’s CEO told Agence-France-Presse that the concert contract was still on, making her responsible for the event. “If she does not show up for the concert, we will begin a procedure in the courts to claim $35-$40 million in damages,” the CEO said.
