Wisconsin state Sen. Van Wanggaard has requested a ballot recount after losing in this month's recall vote to Democrat John Lehman by 834 votes, a margin of 1.2 percent of the almost 72,000 ballots cast. While critics maintain that the review is a waste of money, the campaign says it is concerned about reports of voting irregularities and wants to ensure accuracy. If the results remain the same after the recount it will represent a small recovery for the Democratic party, which lost in the other five recall elections held this month. The Wisconsin Senate currently has 16 Democrats and Republicans each, meaning that the winner of this election will give his party a majority.
