Modern Family, Homeland, and Game Change weren’t the only big winners at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards. The telecast itself scored a major victory, receiving 13.2 million pairs of eyeballs and besting last year’s broadcast by nearly 1 million viewers. The numbers for the Jimmy Kimmel–emceed ceremony were actually better than three of the award show’s past five broadcasts. Of course, it’s all relative. The numbers were paltry compared to the more than 30 million viewers that tuned into the Republican and Democratic conventions in recent weeks, and they also don’t compare to the 39 million viewers that tuned in for the most recent Oscars ceremony.
