A Russian warship fired warning shots at a Turkish fishing boat Sunday in an attempt to avoid a collision in the Aegean Sea. A Turkish military attache was summoned to the foreign ministry in Moscow over the incident, and warned “about the potentially disastrous consequences from Ankara’s reckless actions towards Russia’s military contingent fighting against international terrorism in Syria,” according to a Russian Defense Ministry statement. The ministry said the Turkish boat came within 1,600 feet of the warship and changed course only after shots were fired. Tensions have esacalated between the countries since Turkey shot down a Russian military jet near the Syrian border last month.
