Successfully passing the same-sex marriage bill in New York State is helping Gov. Andrew Cuomo to emerge as a possible Democratic frontrunner for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president. But it's more than just one success: the passage of gay marriage closes a very productive first legislative session for the governor. Sixty percent of New Yorkers and 59 percent of Republicans approve of the job he's doing so far. The new gay marriage law will further fire up his Democratic base in a huge state. New York is also one of the largest and wealthiest Democratic donor bases in the country: Cuomo raised over $20 million for his gubernatorial race.
