Extensive flooding in southwest Nigeria has led to at least 102 deaths, the Red Cross told the AFP Wednesday. A dam burst because of rain and flooding, and a few bridges were also destroyed in the deluge. Over the weekend, torrential rains battered the area for more than seven hours, demolishing houses and drowning residents. Flooding is a common occurrence during Nigeria’s rainy season, which lasts from April to September.
