Citing a new “era of relations” willed by the Iranian people, newly elected President Hassan Rouhani offered “greetings to the people of America who are very dear and near to the hearts of the Iranian people” in an interview with CNN. The sit-down was another move in what some are calling the leader’s charm offensive; he has promised never to build nuclear weapons, ordered the release of political prisoners, and exchanged letters with President Obama. Rouhani also acknowledged the Holocaust, something his predecessor openly questioned. “Any crime that happens in history against humanity, including the crime the Nazis created towards the Jews, is reprehensible and condemnable," he said.
