Latinos Outnumber Whites in California

It’s official: Latinos now outnumber whites in California, according to new population figures released by the Census Bureau. As of July 1, 2014, the state’s 14.99 million Latinos outnumbered the 14.92 million whites. The shift was long-predicted by demographers, who had originally expected the change to occur in 2013. “This is sort of the official statistical recognition of something that has been underway for almost an entire generation,” Roberto Suro, director of the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute at USC, told the Los Angeles Times.
