President Trump and Sen. Bob Corker traded new insults Tuesday morning after the GOP senator said on NBC’s Today that the president’s comments on North Korea move the country closer to war and “kneecap” Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s diplomatic efforts. In a series of tweets, Trump said Corker “helped President O give us the bad Iran Deal & couldn’t get elected dog catcher in Tennessee, is now fighting Tax Cuts....” then “Corker dropped out of the race in Tennessee when I refused to endorse him, and now is only negative on anything Trump. Look at his record!” Corker responded in another tweet: “Same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #AlertTheDaycareStaff.” The comments come just hours before Trump is scheduled to discuss tax reform and health care at the Senate Republican policy lunch. Corker later went on CNN and said he would not support Trump again, believes he is a bad role model, and that “the debasement of our nation is what he will be remembered most for.”
