Federal authorities are reporting that at least 141 inmates have fled from a federal prison in Mexico. A preliminary investigation found that the convicts escaped through a service entrance with the help of prison workers. The director of the prison compound has also disappeared. As security is ramped up at other nearby prisons, the local and federal authorities have been playing the blame game. This is the third major jail-break near the border with the United States this year. In September, 85 inmates used a ladder to escape one prison and, in March, another 40 prisoners escaped from a prison in nearby Matamoros. State workers say that they've asked for help from the federal government to increase security especially since the area is prone to drug wars and cartel invasions. Meanwhile the federal government harshly criticized the local offices, calling their handling of the prisons "deplorable."
