Pope Benedict XVI is deflecting blame for allowing a Holocaust-denying bishop back into the Church: he didn’t know! That, at least, is the Vatican’s new line. The Vatican has also demanded that the bishop in question, Richard Williamson, recant his positions before being fully admitted back into the Church. "Bishop Williamson, in order to be admitted to episcopal functions within the church, will have to take his distance, in an absolutely unequivocal and public fashion, from his position on the Shoah, which the Holy Father was not aware of when the excommunication was lifted," the Vatican said in a statement.
