Or at least New Yorker writer Vicky Raab did when she wrote to Salvatore Scibona to find out how he’s spending the $10,000 he won with the New York Public Library’s Fiction Prize last week. “My rule is to put all windfalls in the bank,” Scibona replied. “However, two of my nieces in Ohio are making their First Communions in May and have reason to expect a kickback. I may also splurge on a load of manure for the garden.” Hey, at least he’s honest.
