San Francisco's de Young Museum presents Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, the first show of its kind in the Bay Area in 30 years. Featuring 130 objects from Egypt's 18th dynasty and lots of kitschy Tut souvenirs, the exhibition has broken attendance records at museums across the US. Unfortunately, the show does not include Tut’s golden death mask and mummified corpse and sarcophagus, which the Egyptians will no longer travel; instead there are only digital scans. Although tickets top out at $32.50 and gift shop items include a Ghirardelli Chocolate pyramid, curator Renee Dreyfus boasts “I wanted to get beyond the oohs and the ahs at these objects, to expand our understanding of the culture of antiquity.”
