Douglas Brinkley, acclaimed author and historian, will publish a biography of Walter Cronkite. Brinkley has studied the newsman’s vast archives—from his reporter’s notebooks to personal documents—at the Center of American History at the University of Texas. And in an interview on the day of Cronkite’s death, Katie Couric called Brinkley the “official repository” for all things Cronkite. “I’ve taken Walter Cronkite very seriously,” he told her. “I grew up riveted watching his broadcast as a young kid.” According to GalleyCat, William Morrow inked the deal with Brinkley back in 2007—for “at least $500K”—and is expected to publish it in May.
