Guggenheim Invites Creative Minds to Fill Its Center

When Frank Lloyd Wright designed New York’s Guggenheim Museum, he left its prime real estate, the central rotunda, empty—an issue curators and artists have struggled with until the recent exhibition, Contemplating the Void. The Guggenheim invited more than 200 creative minds to suggest ways to fill the museum’s dead space, including artist Doug Aitken, architect Zaha Hadid, and Dutch architecture firm MVRDV. The Netherlands firm, for example, suggested bungee jumping and there are many other ideas that will be displayed in the exhibition from February 12 to April 28. Nearly all of the proposals will be sold during a silent auction on March 4 to benefit the Guggenheim’s programming.
