After it unfriended the social networking giant last week, Bangladesh has agreed to allow its citizens to log on to Facebook again. The site was blocked because of an online contest to draw the Prophet Muhammad, with the ban lifted only after the content was removed. (In Islam, any depiction of the Prophet is considered blasphemous.) “The ban on Facebook has been lifted late on Saturday after the authorities removed the objectionable contents from the sites,” a senior Bangladeshi official said. The site has become popular with young users in Bangladesh, leading to a large clash with government: One man was arrested in Dhaka, the capital, for posting “obnoxious” images of the country’s Prime Minister and an opposition figure. A similar ban was instituted and then lifted in Pakistan this week.
