The oil spill isn’t the only problem on BP’s hands: The company has agreed to pay a record $50 million in fines for safety violations found at an oil refinery in Texas City, Texas. The fines come after BP failed to fix problems even after 15 workers died in an explosion at the refinery in 2005. However, BP is contesting an additional $30 million in fines.
