Rutgers University announced Tuesday that the university will open three gender-neutral dorms in the fall as the school still reels from the high-profile suicide of gay student Tyler Clementi last fall. Students must apply for the dorms, which will be reserved for sophomores and upperclassman, and the university said 20-30 students will be allowed in as a pilot program in the fall. University officials said they hoped the gender-neutral housing would help make the school more inclusive. Several other schools, including Emory University, Columbia University and Ohio University, will also be experimenting with gender-neutral housing in the fall.
