Get ready for an emotional launch: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords plans to attend her husband Mark Kelly’s space shuttle takeoff on April 19, Giffords’ spokesman said Thursday. The launch, at Cape Canaveral, will be just three months after Giffords was shot in the head in a Tucson parking lot. Giffords’ recovery has been kept under wraps since she entered a Houston rehab center last month, but the hospital said Wednesday the congresswoman “continues to improve.” While spokeswoman C.J. Karamargin said Giffords “fully understands” her husband is flying the space shuttle, Karamargin said, “We’re not even there yet in the planning process,” about how Giffords will make it to the event in April.
