Serious videogame connoisseurs might want to leave the room for this one. Slate’s Farhad Manjoo lodges his review of the latest Modern Warfare offering—and simultaneously dismisses the medium in the process. While high-minded critics have dismissed the wildly popular new game for its plot holes, Manjoo doesn’t particularly care about videogame narratives. “I don’t play games often, and when I do, I don’t expect as much from them as I expect from the best books or films or music.” His three criteria for a good game are that it’s easy to learn, visually exciting, and physically enjoyable. And on those counts, MW3 passes with flying colors.
