Turns out the voice of the people isn’t gauging opinions as well as you might think. Twitter is decidedly partisan, skewing more liberal or more conservative than true public opinion. Analysis of reactions of the social media site for major events such as President Obama’s reelection showed they were much more positive than nationwide conversation. And when Twitter users reacted unfavorably to Obama’s State of the Union address, the public viewed it more positively. The two events that Twitter and public opinion aligned?
