An intrepid American explorer attempting to ride 370 balloons in an inflatable life boat across the Atlantic abandoned his plan after 12 hours in the air. Jonathan Trappe is an experienced "cluster balloonist" and had been preparing for this flight for two years after previously crossing the English Channel and the Alps in similar fashion. He was apparently taking a cue from the Pixar film Up, featuring a pensioner flying his house to South America using, as Trappe said, "Wind, helium and hope." The balloonist took off from Maine and landed in Newfoundland, Canada.
