The Twitter account @GSElevator gained a massive following online with its cutting tweets about conversations overheard in the elevator at Goldman Sachs. The tweets were so popular that the man behind the tweets, John Lefevre, snagged a six-figure book deal in January. However, when Lefevre’s true identity was revealed two weeks ago, it turned out he had never worked at Goldman and the tweets were a complete fabrication. Originally, the publisher, Touchstone, had stood by Lefevre, but on Thursday it announced it was canceling the book. Ever magnanimous in victory, Goldman Sachs tweeted, “Guess elevators go up and down.”
