The leaders of the Group of Seven nations have agreed to impose new, targeted sanctions against Russia as a result of the Ukraine crisis. In a statement, leaders of the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan said, “Given the urgency of securing the opportunity for a successful and peaceful democratic vote next month in Ukraine’s presidential elections, we have committed to act urgently to intensify targeted sanctions and measures to increase the costs of Russia’s actions.” A senior American official said each country “will determine which targeted sanctions they will impose,” and the the U.S. could take action as early as Monday.
