Pakistani Army officials said Friday at least 17 people were killed after Taliban gunmen attacked an air force base in Peshawar. Pakistani Taliban spokesman Muhammad Khorasani confirmed the Taliban was behind the attack on the Badaber air base. Militants stormed the base and gunned down 17 people inside a mosque on the premises before they were contained to a guard room, according to Major General Asim Bajwa. It was unclear if the victims were civilians or miltary. Security forces shot and killed 13 militants and a manhunt was underway for any remaining attackers. About 20 military were reportedly injured and taken to the hospital, according to rescue official Bilal Ahmed. The attack is the largest assault on military personnel this year.
