A 7.2 earthquake, later reduced to a 6.9, struck the South Pacific islands of Vanuatu on Sunday, prompting initial tsunami warnings. The quake ended up being deeper than initially thought, 21 miles as opposed to the first measured 6 miles. There are waves expected but nothing that would constitute tsunami level at this time.
