Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards issued an executive order Tuesday protecting transgender state workers against discrimination. Under the order, state agencies and other departments would also not be able to discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The order comes as several other southern states have signed anti-LGBT legislation—most infamously North Carolina, which prohibited local ordinances protecting LGBT individuals from discrimination.
