In its first successful test, an electromagnetic sled prototype of California’s proposed Hyperloop accelerated to more than 100 miles an hour in a two-second test in the Nevada desert Wednesday. The test was meant to prove that the company, Hyperloop One, will one day be able to complete Elon Musk’s technical vision of a global transportation revolution. Musk has said the project could one day transport passengers between Los Angeles and San Francisco in fast-moving vacuum tubes hitting 750 miles per hour. The company has already raised $80 million. “Technology development testing can be a tricky beast,” Brogan BamBrogan, the company’s founder, said Wednesday. “You never know on a given day if things are going to work exactly like you want.” Officials said a test later this year may show similar vehicles levitating and carrying pods. The full project could be operational by 2021.
