The family of Alton Sterling—the man killed by Baton Rouge police in a questionable shooting last week—wants law-enforcement officials to release surveillance video recorded of the incident. Two cameras at the Triple S Mart captured two white police officers shooting the black CD vendor to death, but the hard drive containing footage of the incident was seized by police that night. Now the family wants to see what is the most complete record of their loved one’s death. “The family would like the release of the video surveillance tapes,” the lawyer for Sterling’s son said in a statement to The Daily Beast. “If we are searching for the truth, it starts here.” Store owner Abdullah Muflahi sued Baton Rouge police for illegally seizing the surveillance video and detaining him last week. Police now say they had a warrant, but Muflahi’s attorney said police exceeded the warrant’s authority and questioned the timeline of the search and seizure.
