Officials with the Trump-backing Great America PAC were willing to accept $2 million from a mysterious Chinese donor, in violation of campaign finance laws, an investigation by the Telegraph found. Posing as a representative of a Chinese donor, an undercover reporter contacted Great America PAC co-chair Eric Beach, who said the PAC could accept a $2 million donation, but through a 501(c)4 organization which could conceal the donor's name. Beach said the money could be used for television ads and grassroots campaigns.
“One thing he has to understand is, what you guys have to understand is: you can get credit, but don’t overdo it with the influence,” Beach told the reporter, adding that the backer's name could be "whispered into Mr Trump’s ear whenever your client feels it’s appropriate." The Clinton campaign was also approached, but did not respond to the Telegraph's offer.
