James Comey’s prepared remarks, released Wednesday a day in advance of his scheduled appearance before a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing tomorrow, confirm the details previously reported to have been in the former FBI director’s memos. The New York Times and Washington Post had previously reported that the memos recalled that President Trump had asked Comey to expressly pledge “loyalty” to his presidency; and that the president had asked the then-FBI chief to end the investigation into former national-security adviser Michael Flynn. Those details are confirmed first-person by the stories told in Comey’s testimony. Additionally, the testimony will reveal that President Trump told Comey during a phone call that “he had nothing to do with Russia, had not been involved with hookers in Russia, and had always assumed he was being recorded when in Russia. He asked what we could do to ‘lift the cloud.’”
