Israel Destroys Gaza’s Sole Power Plant

Israel hit the Gaza Strip’s one power plant Tuesday as part of a larger campaign to target Hamas’ infrastructure and symbols of power. Sixty airstrikes were carried out Tuesday, marking the most intense bombardment since the fighting began three weeks ago. Hamas’ Al-Aqsa satellite-TV station was damaged, along with government buildings and the home of a top Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was leveled. Israel has targeted several Hamas leaders’ homes, but there have been no casualties “presumably as they appear to have gone into hiding,” according to the Associated Press. More than 100 Palestinians were killed, according to Gaza authorities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahau declared Monday: “We will continue to act aggressively and responsibly until the mission is completed to protect our citizens, soldiers, and children.”
