NY Governor’s Race

Poll: Cuomo Winning by a Landslide

Voters call Paladino “angry,” “bigoted,” and “obnoxious.”

Hold on to your seats for this one: On the heels of one unsavory revelation after another about New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino, a New York Times poll reveals that New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is winning in the race against his embattled opponent—by a lot. Among likely voters, 59 percent support Cuomo, while 24 percent back his rival. Paladino has come under fire in recent days for making a series of ill-advised, homophobic statements, and for questions about his temperament. Voters polled offered up descriptors like “angry,” “bigoted,” and “obnoxious”—only 11 percent reported holding a favorable view of Paladino. Polling in New York governor’s race stands in sharp contrast to the mood nationwide, where fervent anti-incumbent sentiment looks likely to sweep many an outsider into office.
