Fans still going through Breaking Bad withdrawals have to wait until early 2015 for the show’s spinoff, Better Call Saul, but details about Vince Gilligan’s newest creation are here now. The AMC network confirmed that Better Call Saul will be a period piece set in 2002, six years before the shady-but-lovable lawyer Saul (who then went by the name Jimmy McGill) ever met meth kingpin Walter White. The show will feature the return of Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman and Jonathan Banks as “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut, who will be “working alongside, and often against” Goodman. Spinal Tap’s Michael McKean will also join as a series regular. The general plot of the series, as AMC puts it, “will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts ‘criminal’ in ‘criminal lawyer.’” The series has already been greenlit for a second season.
