Goldman's $1B Donation?

Is Goldman Sachs pondering a major charitable donation? Months after paying off billions of dollars in TARP money, the bank is doling out employee bonuses rivaling those awarded in the record bubble year of 2007—and public resentment over the billions in compensation is high. Far from crowing about the stellar results the bank announced Thursday, Goldman Chief Lloyd Blankfein has to defend it against angry Americans. On Thursday, he announced a donation of $200 million to Goldman’s charitable foundation, and rumors are swirling that he’s weighing giving up to $800 million more to charity. The bank has already retained a philanthropy consultant.
