DOJ Announces Investigation of Chicago Police

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced Monday morning that the Department of Justice will investigate the Chicago Police Department for constitutional violations. Lynch said the inquiry will largely focus on the department's use of force against minorities and handling of allegations of misconduct. The news comes after multiple Chicago officials requested a federal review in light of how the police department handled the 2014 fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald by Officer Jason Van Dyke. In making the announcement, Lynch lamented the mistrust between Chicago residents and conscientious officers.
