Chinese Quake Zone Awaits Supplies

After a series of earthquakes shook a farming region in southwestern China, killing 81 and injuring hundreds more, supplies were rushed to survivors Sunday. The region continued to feel tremors and aftershocks, and a small child was killed by a wall that collapsed Saturday, the disaster’s latest victim. Two hundred thousand villagers were evacuated from the mountain region as homes were destroyed and landslides blocked roadways. “We are in dire need of tents and quilts,” one official said as many of the evacuees continued to sleep in the open air. “Many people have no quilts and are not living in tents.”
