Nebraska abolished the death penalty Wednesday, overriding a veto by Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts.The state’s one-house legislature voted 30-19 to override the veto, making Nebraska the first conservative state to abolish the death penalty since since North Dakota did in 1973. Eighteen other states and the District of Columbia have already banned capital punishment.
