President Trump has confirmed reports that he’s considering rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership—the trade agreement he decided to quit shortly after taking office—but only if he gets a better deal than former President Obama’s team had. Bloomberg News reported Thursday that Trump was exploring whether of not to rejoin the trade partnership and has directed officials to examine whether or not it would be worthwhile. In a late post on Twitter on Thursday, the president wrote: “Would only join TPP if the deal were substantially better than the deal offered to Pres. Obama. We already have BILATERAL deals with six of the eleven nations in TPP, and are working to make a deal with the biggest of those nations, Japan, who has hit us hard on trade for years!” The president previously criticized the TPP as a “disaster.”
